Dr. J. M. Casida
PhD, RN, APN-C, CCRN-CSC
Dr. Casida is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Health Behavior and Biological Sciences at the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. He received his MS in Critical Care Nursing from Columbia University and PhD in Health Sciences from Seton Hall University. Also, he is an alumnus of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholar Program. Dr. Casida’s research and scholarship activities are anchored on his extensive clinical and leadership background in cardiac critical care. His program of research focuses on self-management and care-giving in cardiac surgery and mechanical circulatory support, such as left-ventricular assist devices. His goal is to test, and disseminate patient/family-centered interventions designed for improving health, healthcare care utilizations, and quality of life outcomes of these populations. His work has been funded by several institutions and agencies including the National Institutes of Health. At UMSN, Dr. Casida teaches in the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs. He is the faculty lead/chairperson of the School’s undergraduate honors program. Dr. Casida serves on research committees at regional and national levels, including the Midwest Nursing Research Society, American Association of Heart Failure Nurses, and the American Heart Association. He also serves in scientific review panels and on editorial board of peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Casida maintains his clinical specialty certifications in adult critical care and cardiac surgery nursing, and has been a member of an item review panel for the cardiac surgery certification examination administered by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Dr. K. T. Chau

Dr Chau is the Chief of Service and Senior Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist in the Department of Paediatric Cardiology, Queen Mary Hospital which is affiliated with the University of Hong Kong. He is currently Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of the University of Hong Kong, Honorary Professor of both Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University and the Children’s Hospital of Soochow University in China. His major work is on interventional cardiology in children with heart disease and he has been introducing new techniques into Hong Kong over the last two decades. He is also pivotal and instrumental in establishing the mechanical circulatory support program for children in Hong Kong. This includes providing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and ventricular assist device service for children. His research interest is in long-term outcomes of congenital heart disease after cardiac surgery and interventional procedures. He is active in teaching and training of medical student, paediatric residents, paediatric cardiologist, and cardiac nurses. He is an advocated of developing paediatric cardiac nursing as a subspecialty in the nursing profession. Currently, Dr Chau serves as a reviewer of a number of international and local refereed journals and is an editorial board member of the Chinese Medical Journal (English version). He is also an examiner in various examination boards of the Hong Kong Medical Council, Hong Kong college of Paediatricians and the University of Hong Kong. He is the Hong Kong representative in the National Expert Panel for Paediatric Cardiology under the Chinese Medical Association, People’s Republic of China as well as the Chairman of the Paediatric Cardiology Chapter of the Hong Kong College of Cardiology.
